Introduction
Science Gallery Dublin at Trinity College Dublin launched the first Rapid Residency grants in April 2020 to support their creative community who saw many opportunities postponed, moved online, or cancelled during the COVID-19 crisis. Art-science collaborations play a unique role in public engagement, but how do you facilitate transdisciplinary collaborations when you can’t get groups together, can’t meet in person – can’t even go to the office or the studio? Faced with this challenge, Science Gallery Dublin piloted a virtual residency programme, which supported artists to collaborate with expert researchers on developing a new project or idea over 5 sessions. ScArt follows the same goals and widens the target audience to young people to be mentored by researchers and artists, keeping the same successful format.
