Perception of Time
1, What comes to mind when you think of TIME?
Αs soon as I hear this word, its definition strikes my mind. Time is an interval between two events. If we take events as real, the time is also real. But if we take them as an illusion, then time is also an illusion. The first event is Big Bang and the last event is the end of the universe. The interval between them is time, as far as I think. Whenever we think, we are in the realm of time. There is no further need to be thinking about time. Thoughts exist when there is movement, something is going from one place to another (even if it is merely an idea). Therefore, it appears to have a duration of travel, this duration is time. If we take the two events of time: real and illusion. I think that time is real. For example, if someone asks a fish: what if there were no water? This question has no meaning to that fish. Because absence of water means improbability of existence of that life. Similarly, we are a function of time. We are so bounded by it that it is the limit of our measurements along with space, like fish without water, us without time is beyond our imagination. The absence of time makes our existence improbable. To myself time is very real.
2. Tell us what you would like to explore more that relates to TIME.
I would like to explore more about time. I would like to know if time is really real and what kind of effect time can cause. I would also want to know why we can’t get back the time we lost with someone.
3. How does TIME affect you or those around you, is it a positive or negative thing?
Time perspective relates to whether we focus on our past, present or future. When we make decisions and take actions. It is a powerful influence on many aspects of our behavior, including educational achievement, health, sleep, romantic partner, choices and more. The time affects me in a negative way sometimes. I had sleep problems, so when I read a book and take too much time, my eyes hurt, and sometimes this includes sadness.
4. Why does TIME matter to you?
Every single thing in the universe is affected by time. Because time is the only thing you can’t get back.
5. What do you hope to gain from participating in this Residency programme?
From participating in this Residency programme, I hope to gain knowledge. I would like to improve my knowledge at science and continue my research, to defend my interests. Maybe I could gain another opportunity from participating in this Residency programme.
6. What do you feel you could gain from the mentorship aspect of this programme and the connection to artists, scientists, researchers, and industry makers?
I think that from the mentorship aspect of this programme I could gain knowledge and relationships. It will also be beneficial for me to meet many people from different cultures. It will also allow me to increase my self-confidence, and meet people from the upper class.
7. What do you wish your peers cared about more and how does this issue connect to the theme of TIME?
First of all, I wish my peers the best. It is not easy for some people of our generation to understand about time. Because we need time to understand time. It is only a matter of time.
8. Tell us about something that you saw or read about recently (any topic), share why you found it interesting and how you believe it impacts young people.
Recently, I read a book about artificial intelligence (AI). I found it interesting because artificial intelligence makes our life more efficient every day. Artificial intelligence powers many programs and services that help us do everyday things such as connecting with friends, using our email, or using a ride share service. Artificial intelligence systems offer online lessons and teaching to the young students. Without artificial intelligence, human life would be very difficult. But it also has disadvantages: AI makes people lazy and it increases unemployment. In the hands of the wrong people, these weapons could easily cause mass casualties.
9. Describe an experience you are proud of where you were part of a team (e.g studies, work, relationships)
An experience of which I am proud of being a part of a team is studies. It is because studies and research have overcome many diseases. I would not exchange studies with anything in the world, especially the research of science for the truth of knowledge. Μy experience as a student has given me curiosity to continue studying and to embrace the discipline of knowledge.
10.If Science and Art was an animal, what would it look like and what would it do?
Art is beautiful, the emotion, the intellect. Science is the total knowledge of the universe. If science and art were an animal, which is not possible, the world would be dangerous, if animals practiced science and art.
